Thank you so much, Peter Roberts, for the VIP backstage hang a couple of weeks ago, with Styx, Kevin Cronin / REO Speedwagon, and Don Felder (Eagles)!
Peter has been the monitor mix engineer for REO Speedwagon for 20+ years. This year, due to the “band divorce” with REO bassist Bruce Hall, the band is continuing to tour under the moniker “Kevin Cronin Band”, and they were awesome! It’s the SAME BAND that was touring last year as REO Speedwagon. The entire “Hi Infidelity” album was performed, as well as a bunch of other classic hits.
Don Felder was the lead guitarist of The Eagles from 1974 to 2001, and co-wrote many of their hits, including “Hotel California”. At 77 years old, he still sounds great on the vocals as well. DAMN what a great guitar player! His band was spot-on with all of those Eagles tunes and background harmonies.
STYX! What’s there to say? Iconic American Progressive Rock band. Stupidly amazing as usual.
So cool for my buddy Steve Solomon and I to get to meet some of the band members backstage after the show! Two of Don Felder’s band members (can’t find names?), and Dave Amato (REO/Cronin guitar), Matt Bissonette (REO/Cronin bass).
The best moments of these summer concerts are being with thousands of people singing along to the songs. Sometimes it’s so moving that it brings tears to my eyes and I’m unable to sing. It really makes me feel the power of music to bring people together.
